Guide – how and where to look for financial support?

Treatment and rehabilitation often require huge financial outlays that the sick person and their loved ones are unable to cope with. Even if the treatment is 100% reimbursed, travel to the hospital, medications and rehabilitation alone consume significant amounts of money. Let us also remember that a sick person should be provided with an appropriate diet, eat the highest quality food, and take care of their mental health, because the attitude towards fighting the disease and the patient's good state of mind are an important factor in the fight against cancer. Every sick person deserves the highest level of help, so they should have no qualms about asking for it.

However, in order for the search for this help to have a good effect, several tasks must be performed: create a sub-account, write an appeal for help, complete appropriate documentation that will later be sent to potential donors, it is also worth considering creating a website from which a possible sponsor will be able to find out learn more about the sick person.

SUBACCOUNT:

A subaccount is an account made available to the patient by a non-governmental organization, where the patient will be able to collect funds for his or her treatment and rehabilitation. The sub-account is important because, firstly, it is a transparent method of financing treatment needs, secondly, it is a great convenience for a possible donor who can, for example, deduct the donation from tax and has the feeling that they are donating funds to a verified collection, and thirdly, – in some organizations it is possible to collect funds from 1% tax for a specific person. Many public benefit organizations create subaccounts, but the conditions for making them available and maintaining them vary.

There are many organizations that run subaccounts, but before you decide on a specific choice, answer a few questions:

  • What is the cost of providing a subaccount, i.e. what percentage of the funds transferred to you will stay in the organization and how much will go to you?
  • What expenses can you settle from the funds collected on the subaccount?
  • What is the payment deadline, i.e. how long after submitting the documents for settlement will you receive a refund?
  • What is the activation time for the subaccount?
  • Is the organization you have chosen well-known, transparent, has no court cases, and is it solvent?
  • What forms of assistance does the organization offer, apart from opening a subaccount?

It is worth stopping for a moment and choosing an organization that will meet your expectations in this regard.

CALL FOR HELP:

An appeal for help should describe the history of the person's disease, the process of fighting it and the progress in current treatment, as well as present the financial situation of the patient's family, write what the funds are being collected for, and what amount is needed for a specific purpose. It is also important to include in the appeal for help the contact details of the patient or someone close to him (address and necessarily telephone number and e-mail address), as well as clearly the sub-account number and the transfer title. It is also a good idea to attach a photo of the patient - we are more willing to help someone we "know" than our imagination.

Remember to agree on the content of the appeal for help with the organization that provided you with the subaccount!

DOCUMENTS:

In addition to the appeal for help, we also send all documentation to potential donors. However, you should not exaggerate with the number of letters, it is important to have a few basic documents, i.e. a copy of the agreement on the provision of a sub-account, a disability certificate, a hospital discharge card, a certificate of family income, a pro-forma invoice if the funds are collected for a purchase. a specific product/financing a specific treatment.

SENDING CALLS FOR HELP:

Appeals for help, along with all documentation, should be sent to associations, foundations, companies in your area, as well as accounting offices in the case of collecting funds from the 1% tax, and interest the local media in the story. Please remember that the larger the number of documents sent, the greater the chances of getting help. It is recommended to send letters to 50 branches per week. And this is important! We send documents by post, we do not send them electronically, because in this way they can often be treated as spam and, as a result, they will not reach anyone or they are perceived as a violation of the GDPR - the Personal Data Protection Act.

WEBSITE:

When looking for support for treatment and rehabilitation, you should also consider setting up a website dedicated to the sick person.

It will contain information about the person, their photos, it is also worth including full medical documentation, thanks to those who helped, as well as contact details of the sick person or their family. Remember to update entries on the website on a regular basis.
