A unique place has appeared on the Poznań map, created by the Anna Wierska Marrow Team Foundation. The Kamila Sobczak Onco-Baza Support Center, as we're referring to it, is a place created with people facing cancer in mind, both during and after treatment, as well as their loved ones.
Cancer never affects only the body; it impacts the psyche, emotions, family and partner relationships, sense of security, identity, and often also professional and financial situations. Many patients experience disorientation within the complex healthcare system, loneliness, anxiety, and helplessness. Families and caregivers, though often overlooked, also need support, conversation, and a place where their emotions are acknowledged and heard.
Onko-Baza is an open, welcoming home, free from barriers, judgment, and rush. It's a safe space where you can pause, catch your breath, and regain your strength. It's a place for conversation, support, and meetings with people who share similar experiences of the disease. Onko-Baza's services are available to cancer patients at any stage of treatment, those who have completed it, as well as their loved ones, partners, children, parents, and caregivers. Anyone who has found themselves in the orbit of cancer will find a place for themselves here.
One of the cornerstones of Onko-Baza is comprehensive, specialized support, available in one place and in an atmosphere of understanding. Patients can consult with a psycho-oncologist, sexologist, educator, hematologist, therapist, addiction therapist, dietitian, physiotherapist, dentist, lawyer, and bank employee, among others. Individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, addiction therapy, and support groups are offered. It's also a space for conversation, for being heard, understood, and accepted for who we are, without having to pretend to be strong or "cope.".
Onko-Baza is also a place for activity, creativity, and bodywork. Regular exercise classes are organized, tailored to the abilities and health of participants, along with craft and art classes, developmental and educational workshops, and thematic meetings. These activities promote not only physical fitness but also a sense of empowerment, joy, creativity, and connection with one's own body. Building community and relationships is a crucial aspect of the project. Onko-Baza is a meeting place for people facing similar challenges, sharing experiences, supporting each other, and finding a sense of belonging. It's a space where you can be yourself, without masks, without explanations, without fear.
The mission of Onko-Baza is to genuinely improve the quality of life of people with cancer and their families. The center aims to empower patients, restore their sense of empowerment and hope, support their return to social and professional life, and demonstrate that the treatment process is not just about medical procedures, but above all about the individual and their story.
The Center complements inpatient treatment by offering comprehensive psychosocial care, crucial for the recovery process and return to balance. It welcomes cancer patients at any stage of their illness or treatment, patients who have been in remission for up to two years, their loved ones (spouse, partner, parents, siblings, children, caregivers), and those experiencing grief.
