A plant-based diet may prevent serious complications of COVID-19
According to the editor-in-chief The British Medical Journal, diet is the leading cause of conditions associated with severe outcomes from COVID-19, but it can also improve these outcomes. Obesity is linked to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and is now considered a key risk factor for COVID-19. To reduce obesity rates, Fiona Godlee suggests eating more fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains, while eating less red meat and processed foods to limit the effects of the virus and its next wave. He also points out that "the meat industry is the driving force behind acute and chronic diseases."
