How to prepare for your first visit to the oncologist?

The mere suspicion of cancer is a huge stress. First visits to an oncologist are often full of fear and tension. We have prepared a few tips that can help you prepare for your visit:

✔︎ Collect medical records
Test results and medical history are key pieces of information that the oncologist will use to plan your treatment. You can compile them in one folder/binder to make them easier to sort.

✔︎ Prepare a list of questions
Before your visit, write down all the questions you would like to ask your doctor. Stress often causes some thoughts to fly away – written questions will help you remember important issues and better understand the treatment process.

✔︎ Take a loved one
Having someone close to you can provide emotional and practical support, and perhaps make you feel a little safer. It’s also an extra set of ears that can help you remember the information your doctor is giving you.

✔︎ Make a list of medications
A thorough list of medications and supplements you are taking allows your oncologist to assess the possibility of drug interactions and better tailor your treatment plan to your health situation.

✔︎ Check location
Knowing the location of the office and planning your transportation will minimize the stress of finding your appointment and help you arrive on time.

Don't expect the impossible from yourself!
A visit to an oncologist can trigger strong emotions, and that’s completely natural. Remember that if you need to, you can ask your doctor about the possibility of consulting a psycho-oncologist.

With proper preparation, you will feel more confident and better understand your treatment plan. Remember to bring all your documents, prepare questions and… breathe deeply ❤︎
