Our dad's name is Wojtek. He led a normal life—work, home, wife, grandchildren. However, things changed just before Christmas.

A few days before Christmas Eve, my dad developed symptoms of a common sinus infection: sinus pain and fever. After several visits to different doctors and two weeks of antibiotics, his right eyelid drooped slightly, but the doctors said it was due to a sinus infection. At the beginning of January, another visit with a different doctor ended differently than expected. After a brief medical history, the doctor noticed the drooping eyelid and immediately called an ambulance. My dad was rushed to the hospital with a suspected stroke.

Unfortunately, after numerous tests, the diagnosis turned out to be worse: a brain tumor the size of an orange. At the end of January, doctors attempted to remove the tumor. Because the tumor is located in the right temporal-occipital region, close to the optic nerve, the doctors were unable to remove all of it. Fearing damage to the nerve and loss of vision, they had to leave a small portion. My father's health, and to a greater extent, his mental health, is further exacerbated by our mother's sudden illness. In early February, she was hospitalized with meningitis and sepsis.

After long waits for the histopathological results, it turned out that this was the worst form brain tumor - diffuse high-grade glioma (grade IV) with the presence of necrosis. Doctors give only about six months to live. Even with treatment already underway, such as radiotherapy and later chemotherapy, the prognosis remains unchanged. In addition to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, there is another treatment option that increases the chances of completely eliminating the tumor: immunotherapy in Germany. Immunotherapy involves activating the immune system to destroy cancer cells on its own, without damaging healthy cells, allowing for more precise action and fewer side effects. This treatment can significantly extend life. Unfortunately, it requires a significant financial outlay of approximately 400,000 PLN.

Dad has always dreamed of being among his loved ones. He wants to see his youngest grandchildren grow up, to be with them as they learn new skills, even learning to ride a bike – the 63-year-old grandfather can even run after his grandson on his bike. Dad's motivation to fight also comes from his wife, for whom she is a great support and help during this difficult time of illness. However, despite our support and the help we give Dad every day, we also ask for help and support, without which we cannot cope. Every bit of support is very important to us. As a family, we will do everything we can to save our Dad.
