Artur Sypytkowski

One day at work changed everything. I'm struggling with stage IV glioma and I'm doing everything I can to "beat the statistics." Today, my best chance is therapy with the Optune device.

My history

Dream:

It all started on April 29, 2025, at work. I developed vision problems that grew more severe by the minute. My colleagues called an ambulance. Straight from the Onet office, I ended up at the Emergency Department of the hospital on Stępińska Street.

At the hospital, a CT scan of the head was performed, which revealed a tumor measuring approximately 4 cm, located in the temporoparietal region. The next day, an MRI confirmed the presence of cancer. I was transported to the PIM MSWiA hospital in Warsaw, where I underwent surgery on May 9th. The tumor was completely removed. Neurological complications were avoided. Unfortunately, the histopathological tests, the results of which I received on June 6th, showed that it was Glioblastoma multiforme grade 4 "wild type"„.

On July 2nd, I began a six-week course of radiotherapy/chemotherapy at the NiO. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the chemotherapy due to a drop in my platelet count. Meanwhile, I consulted with numerous centers in Poland and abroad, underwent additional tests, and sought contact information for people who had managed to "cheat the statistics" of a 15-month survival rate. I also managed to consult with Professor Maciej Harat. Through the consultation, I learned about the TTF Optune device. Unfortunately, the cost of renting the device is beyond my family's financial capabilities. Monthly equipment rental is as much as PLN 120,000.
The device has proven effectiveness in treating these types of cancers.

In December, I qualified for a clinical trial. The study will test various treatments, including the Optune medical device, which uses electric fields to destroy cancer cells, and the drugs temozolomide and pembrolizumab. The study aims to compare the effectiveness of treatment with Optune, temozolomide, and pembrolizumab with treatment using a placebo instead of pembrolizumab. The study will include various stages of treatment, including drug administration and monitoring of patients' health. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one receiving the full treatment and the other receiving treatment with a placebo. Patients will be regularly monitored throughout the study to assess their health and the effectiveness of the treatment. The study aims to test whether adding pembrolizumab to standard treatment for glioblastoma multiforme can improve patient survival.. The study results could contribute to a better understanding of how to effectively treat this type of cancer.

In late December, I took my first dose of medication (or placebo) and began chemotherapy. In early January, I also had the Optune device fitted.
Unfortunately, due to the drop in platelet levels again, I was unable to take another dose of medication..I'm concerned that a low platelet count could result in me being excluded from the study and not being able to use the Optune device.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support!
