Maria and Janusz Zyśk

The doctors don't give me reason to be optimistic, but I have my own opinion - I won't give up! I still have a lot to do, such as spoiling my two wonderful grandchildren or taking care of my husband, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma at the end of 2023.

Dream:

Hello!

My name is Maria, but everyone calls me Kasia. I am 62 years old and for a year I have been struggling with musculoskeletal pain, which over time became unbearable. Seeking help, I visited many specialists to whom I was referred. Unfortunately, it was only one of the X-rays that revealed changes in the right lung, which initiated further diagnostics.

In just a month and a half, I underwent three hospitalizations in different hospitals. The diagnosis I heard was: glandular lung cancer with brain and bone metastases. I also have a pathological fracture of my arm and L1 vertebra in the lumbar section. I am no longer fully independent, and the disease is still progressing.

I am running out of strength, but with the help of the strongest painkillers available I manage to control the pain. I am fighting not only cancer, but also depression – but I am not giving up. From the first tests, through consultations, to treatments – this is what my everyday life and that of my loved ones looks like.

I have had whole brain radiotherapy and have recently started chemotherapy. My oncologist says this is the only available first-line treatment option for my condition. The therapy consists of oral medication combined with additional measures to support bone growth and immune function.

Doctors don't spoil me with optimism - but doctors do their thing, and I do mine. I won't give up. I still have a lot to do: I want to spoil our two wonderful grandchildren and take care of my husband, who is struggling with multiple myeloma, diagnosed at the end of 2023. Up until now, we have been the ones taking care of him, but unfortunately he is still before retirement.

Without financial support, we lack the consultations, medications, and treatments that support everyday functioning. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve the situation, counting on breakthrough treatment.

We have found information about clinics in the US, Germany and the UK that use a drug targeting the KRAS mutation. However, the costs are staggering – around 200,000 euros per year – and I’m worried whether it’ll be possible to collect this amount in time.

I am asking for help – although I have never asked for it before and I was ashamed of it for a long time. Today I know that this is not the time to hesitate. I have to act so that tomorrow will be possible at all…

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who decides to support us even a little during this difficult time.
I wish you all good health – because, as it turns out, it is the foundation of true happiness.

I hug you as tight as I can.
