Dream:
At the end of May, after a colonoscopy, I learned that I had cancer. I had the test because of previous complaints. I underwent a full cycle of chemotherapy and radiotherapy (6 weeks), and then underwent surgery to remove colon cancer, as a result of which a stoma was created.
At the end of 2023, I started chemotherapy treatment in the FOLFIRI regimen. Unfortunately, after three months, due to disease progression in the liver, the therapy was changed to second-line chemotherapy in the FOLFOX-4 regimen with bevacizumab. Subsequent CT scans showed partial regression of neoplastic changes, and in October 2024 a small remission was noted - de facto stabilization of the disease.
In mid-December 2024, there was to fracture the sacrum, which prevented me from functioning normally. In order to stop the neoplastic changes in the sacrum, additional 10 sessions of radiotherapy. I have been receiving chemotherapy continuously since December 18, 2023 every two weeks. Despite my illness, I have been trying to work all the time (I am self-employed), but chemo does not remain indifferent to the body. After more than a year of uninterrupted treatment, the side effects are getting stronger. The last radiotherapy caused severe intestinal spasms, digestive problems (complicated by the stoma) and weight loss. Every day is a fight not only with pain, but also to maintain every kilogram.
At such an advanced stage of the disease and at my young age (46 years old) we decided to take action that goes beyond the standard treatment regimens reimbursed by the National Health Fund. We want to use every possible opportunity. The latest tomography scans showed stabilization with a slight remission, but we do not expect further positive effects of the treatment to date. That is why we have signed an agreement with EMASMED and we plan to perform comprehensive genetic tests, which are not reimbursed in Poland. These tests will enable personalized diagnostics and selection of therapy. We are currently in the process of verifying medical documentation and preparing for consultations with doctors from Israel. Genetic tests of the tumor sample are planned, which will help determine possible treatment options. Then, depending on the recommendations, the treatment will be continued abroad.
At the moment, the costs of medical consultations and genetic tests are known – it is approximately 18500 euro. In the near future, there will be costs of treatment abroad, purchase of medicines, stay in a medical facility, and also maintenance due to the loss of the opportunity to work (I run a business, I do not have an employment contract). In addition, there are the costs of allowance, travel, private visits to specialists and everyday needs related to the disease.
I have a wonderful family – my parents, brother and three beloved nephews, with whom I love spending time. For them, I am an uncle who always has time and energy for them. Until I broke my sacrum, despite chemotherapy, I played football with my oldest nephews. My dream is to get back to such fitness that I can enjoy life, spend time with my family, work and develop. I am determined to fight for every day and every moment with my loved ones.
Every amount, even the smallest, brings me closer to realizing my dream of health and returning to a normal life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help, kind words and support. Together we can make this difficult time a step towards a better tomorrow.
