At the end of June, Piotrek underwent surgery to remove a tumor in his left leg - a large piece of the femur and the knee were removed and an extendable endoprosthesis was inserted, which means that in a few years, when Piotrek will stop growing, it will have to be replaced with the final endoprosthesis.
Currently, Piotrek uses crutches and is undergoing intensive rehabilitation to help him walk and function independently. At the moment, Piotrek needs assistance and support in most activities.
Piotrek has had 10 cycles of chemotherapy, another one ahead of him (a total of 18 cycles from the basic program of chemotherapy cycles planned for this type of osteosarcoma) and two lung surgeries, the first of which is scheduled for mid-September.
From September, he will continue his primary school education in the form of individual lessons at home or online during hospital stays.

Piotrek has undergone another surgery - terracotomy of the left lung. He still has four chemotherapy treatments out of a series of eighteen planned. We are currently waiting for a decision regarding the targeted chemicals for which we are raising funds. Piotrek is in good shape, weakened by treatment and surgeries, but the process is going according to plan, which we are pleased with. During the periods when we are at home, Piotrek rehabilitates his leg and lungs.

Piotrek is a curious thirteen-year-old. He dreams of traveling around the world. He would especially like to see New York. He loves playing basketball and assembling all kinds of models. He's great at math and science.
The history of Piotrek's illness is relatively short, but quite drastic. In the fall of 2022, Piotrek started complaining about knee pain, but tests did not show anything alarming. During the winter break, Piotrek and his dad went hiking and skiing. He complained a little about knee pain, which is natural at this age due to rapid growth - that's what we were suggested in the fall - but it didn't stop him from skiing. After returning home, because the pain did not stop and the leg began to swell, the parents started looking for the cause of the pain again. In mid-March 2023, Piotrek had another ultrasound. During the examination, the doctor diagnosed a large tumor in the distal metaphysis of the left femur. Piotrek was immediately sent for further tests to the Institute of Mother and Child, to the oncology ward. Over the next two weeks, each new test and diagnosis was shocking - malignant tumor of the femur (osteosarcoma) with metastases to both lungs, tumor size 11 cm.
Three weeks after the first examination, Piotrek's fight against this nasty disease began. At the moment, Piotruś is after the first very strong and intense series of chemotherapy. At the same time, due to pneumothorax in one of the lungs caused by metastases, he is connected to a drainage system
sucking, which means he has to stay in hospital. Now he faces a difficult fight against the disease. According to the plan of doctors from the oncology department specializing in this type of cancer, for the next three months Piotrek will be subjected to a series of strong preparatory chemotherapy for the surgery, which is initially planned for June this year. It will be an endoprosthesis insertion surgery and long and arduous rehabilitation. Then he will have two surgeries to remove tumors in his lungs. At the same time, Piotrek will start pharmacological treatment - he will have to take a very expensive drug, which is reimbursed for only 3 months. Piotrek faces a difficult road to victory, which he hopes will be curing and defeating cancer and returning to the life he enjoyed until recently. Treatment and rehabilitation mean huge costs - currently the amount is approximately PLN 300,000.
Piotrek's dream is to recover and visit the USA, he also wants to be able to parachute one day.
