Monika Grobelna
In March 2023, I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the right breast with numerous metastases to the lymph nodes and bones. A tumor of high malignancy and rapid growth. It was a shock for me. I was not in the risk group. I felt sorry for people suffering from cancer, but I never thought it would happen to me. I started crying only a few days later, when I realized that I was really seriously ill.

Dream:
In March 2023, I felt a lump on my right breast. I have had similar tumors before, but each time they turned out to be harmless. The family doctor once again gave me a lot of hope, saying that in his opinion it was nothing serious this time. However, such changes are always checked by a specialist, so to confirm the diagnosis, I was referred to an oncologist for a consultation.
Unfortunately, breast ultrasound and mammography revealed the presence of a satellite malignant tumor with node metastases. The biopsy confirmed previous diagnoses and the type and nature of the cancer. Computed tomography and scintigraphy also revealed numerous bone metastases (pelvis, sternum, ribs, lumbar spine). I felt the ground crumbling beneath me. I started to wonder if I had a chance to recover at all.
The cancer turned out to be hormone-dependent and standard treatment is hormone therapy. In my case, due to the high aggressiveness of the cancer, chemotherapy was necessary (6 series, every 3 weeks). My further treatment plan includes hormone therapy, mastectomy and radiotherapy.
I am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I still have a very long road ahead of me. After each chemotherapy, my physical strength decreases and I feel bad. This is especially difficult for me because I have three children who, unfortunately, have to participate in the course of my illness.
Supportive therapy turns out to be the great hope in my treatment. On the one hand, it allows me to minimize the side effects of chemotherapy and maintain good blood test results to continue treatment. On the other hand, it supports the action of chemotherapy, i.e. it helps kill cancer cells faster and minimizes the risk of disease remission. It is important to start such therapy as soon as possible and to use it for the first two or even three years after starting the therapy.
Unfortunately, supportive treatment is extremely expensive: one infusion costs PLN 1,500, and I should receive 2-3 infusions a month. Additionally, prescribed medications cost another PLN 2,000 per month. Supplements that make it easier for me to function normally on a daily basis cost PLN 1,500 a month. I also follow a diet based on spelled, which costs PLN 1,500 per month. There are also numerous journeys to treatment: Poznań - Warsaw.
All these fees together are starting to become a huge burden for me, but necessary in realizing my dream - recovery so that my children can have a mother. It's so hard for me to answer their questions about whether I will be healthy. It's so hard for me to hear these questions.
However, I am very determined to fight the disease and to win the fight for health and life. For my children, for my loved ones and for myself. I believe that cancer is not a death sentence. Therefore, I am asking you to support me in this difficult situation. Every contribution, even the smallest one, helps me regain my desired health.
