continuation of treatment
My name is Marta, I am a wife and mother of two wonderful daughters, Zosia and Łucja.
At the end of February 2022, I noticed that my left breast had enlarged. Initially, I was under the illusion that it was a change before menstruation, but to be completely calm, I made an appointment for an ultrasound examination.
And so, on Women's Day, instead of enjoying flowers from my husband, I received the verdict: breast tumor, suspected malignancy on the Birards scale of 4c. Already then my whole life was flashing before my eyes, after all, I'm only 40 years old, I have daughters to raise, I would like to wait for their weddings, what do I say, first the communion of the younger daughter Łucja and the graduation of primary school of the elder Zosia.
Then everything happened in an avalanche, my family doctor sent me to the oncology ward, a fine-needle biopsy of the lymph nodes and a core needle biopsy of the left breast was performed, as well as a mammogram, which revealed another tumor. The biopsy result left no doubt: hormone-dependent invasive breast cancer, Her2-, ki 67 at the level of 40%, the lymph nodes were not involved at that time. Thanks to my wonderful friend Basia, who supports me in every difficult moment, I found a very good oncologist who ordered in-depth diagnostics. Fortunately for me, there were no distant metastases, but the multifocal cancer spread almost to the entire breast and lymph nodes.
On Children's Day this year, instead of rejoicing with my children and celebrating their day, I humbly accepted my first of 16 chemotherapy infusions. Unfortunately, heavy chemotherapy did not bring spectacular results, the tumors shrank slightly, but it was not a "wow" effect. On November 23, 2022, the left breast was amputated and all lymph nodes in the area of the breast were removed at the Hospital in Poznań. I thought that I had gotten rid of my "grandfather", that I would go through another difficult stage in the form of radiotherapy, I would start taking hormones and finally my family and I would start living a normal life.
Unfortunately, on December 27, 2022, during a visit to my oncologist, I learned that I needed 20 doses of Abemaciclib, which is not reimbursed in our country. The cost of the entire treatment is PLN 240,000.00. This information once again clipped my already fragile wings this year. I would love to cuddle them and protect my family, but this is such a blow.
I know that the economic and social situation is currently difficult all over the world, but I am forced to ask you, even beg you, people with good hearts, for help. Unfortunately, we are not able to collect this amount from my husband's salary and the help of our family. The only positive side of my treatment is that I realized that there are wonderful people on earth who surround us.
