My name is Jacek, I am 44 years old. Until recently, I led an ordinary, regular life like many of you, but in July 2022, my situation changed dramatically. Then, during a preventive examination, I found out that I had it pancreatic cancer. It is the most effective killer of all cancers: according to information found on the 90% network, patients die within a year of diagnosis.
We all know the stories of famous people who passed away after a long struggle with this insidious cancer, such as Patrick Swayze, Luciano Pavarotti, Steve Jobs, Ania Przybylska and many others. However, there are those who succeeded. They live many years after diagnosis and do not have a recurrence of the disease. I decided that I would do everything to join this group.
However, after consultations in 6 leading Polish specialist centers, I received information that my case was so complicated that no surgeon would perform the operation due to the very high risk to the patient's life. To put it bluntly: I won't survive.
After the initial shock wore off, I started an active fight against cancer. I received 18 cycles of chemotherapy, 5 cycles of radiotherapy and underwent tumor electroporation surgery (Nanoknife). I started looking for surgical help all over Europe and, fortunately, a professor in Portugal decided to operate on me. In October 2023, I underwent a very complicated surgery removal, among others pancreas, spleen and vascular resection and reconstruction. The surgery was successful, but as a result I automatically became diabetic.
Currently, I have to be under constant supervision, among others: oncologist, diabetologist and neurologist. I take a lot of medications, injections and perform regular diagnostics - MRI, CT scan, PET scan. I have a special diet, I make many doctor's visits, most of them private. I have also struggled with constant weight loss since my diagnosis I lost almost 30 kg, and I was not an obese person. Before the diagnosis, I led an active life - I rode a bike regularly and walked in the Tatra Mountains and Beskid Mountains on weekends. I would like to return to this lifestyle, even on a limited basis. I wrote about this to draw attention to the fact that practicing sports and taking care of yourself does not guarantee good health.
I have a certificate of significant disability, I also have a total incapacity to work. Despite this, I still hope that I will be able to return to a relatively normal life, both professional and private.
Thank you in advance for any help. All donations and shares mean a lot to me.
Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to undergo regular check-ups. Pancreatic cancer in its early stages does not hurt and does not give any indication that something bad is happening in the body. However, diagnosing it at an early stage gives a relatively high chance of complete recovery. Doctors always emphasize this - regular tests can save lives! Unfortunately, I was late due to COVID and lockdown.
THANK YOU!
