My name is Dorota, I am 58 years old and I faced the most difficult experience of my life – struggling with stage IV breast cancer. The disease has spread to the lymph nodes, bones, skin and peritoneal cavity. I received my diagnosis in March 2024, although the first disturbing symptoms appeared much earlier. Since then, my journey has been full of pain, uncertainty, but also hope, which I do not allow myself to lose.

The beginnings were exceptionally difficult. The disease was accompanied by severe anemia, ascites, bone pain, reflux, problems with eating and moving, insomnia, and also enormous stress that paralyzed me every day. I spent three months in bed, almost deprived of the ability to function independently. I was on the verge of life and death - I had an abdominal puncture twice, a blood transfusion several times, and to this day I take many medications and supplements that help me survive.

Despite the advanced stage of the disease, my body responded to the treatment positively. Thanks to hormone therapy combined with oral chemotherapy, I was able to get out of bed and enjoy everyday life again – the sun outside the window, conversations with loved ones, small joys that had previously seemed so distant.

However, stage IV cancer requires a more comprehensive approach. Unfortunately, standard treatment is not enough to stop the progression of the disease. Since June I have been undergoing additional, non-reimbursable supportive therapy. It brings excellent results, but is extremely expensive. The costs of treatment, consultations with specialists, check-ups, supplements and travel to medical facilities amount to approximately PLN 10,000 per month. Until now, I have financed my treatment thanks to my savings and the support of my loved ones, but today I have to ask for help – Your help. My goal is to raise PLN 100,000, which will allow me to continue treatment over the coming months and continue my efforts to regain my health.  

Thanks to the therapy I have undertaken, I feel stronger and full of energy. I have regained my faith that I can derive joy from every day. I did not accept a referral to a hospice because I know that it is not my time yet. I want to live – for my family, friends, beloved animals. I want to continue to experience the beauty of the world, enjoy nature and the smiles of my loved ones. Each day is proof to me that it is worth making an effort and taking advantage of every available opportunity.

I am not just a patient. I am a mother, a wife, a friend. I have always tried to support others, to share the joy and love that I have within me. Today I need support to continue to share this with my loved ones. 

My greatest dream is to still be here, with my loved ones – to see the smiles of my children, to feel the warmth of my family home, to walk among nature, which has always given me solace. I believe that with your help I can continue to face challenges and enjoy the best that life has to offer.
