Benedykt Rajca

9 years ago I got kidney cancer. I managed to recover, but years later the disease relapsed. The only way to stop it is to take an expensive, non-reimbursable drug.

Dream:

My name is Benedykt, I am 67 years old. The diagnosis I received in September 2012 changed my life. I found out then that I have clear cell renal cell carcinoma right.

The attending physician made an immediate decision to remove the entire kidney due to the location of the tumor. The doctor's decision was not to require additional treatment.

For the next 9 years I felt fine. In April 2021, I started experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain and low temperature. I then became ill with COVID-19 and went to my family doctor because of it. During the visit, I was referred for an abdominal ultrasound, which I performed 3 months later. It turned out that I had a tumor on my liver and right thigh. The biopsy taken then confirmed that recovery had occurred so many years later metastasis from the kidney to the liver.

I was immediately forced to undergo hospital treatment. The first step was chemoembolization of the liver tumor. However, complications occurred: abscess infection and sepsis. I lost 10 kg of body weight. Due to the existing metastases, I was not eligible for surgery. I received targeted treatment which failed. Every three months I had a CT scan of the abdominal cavity and an MRI of the thigh, which showed the progressive progression of the disease. Treatment with the National Health Fund was completed as part of the drug program.

Thanks to the support of my family, I started to seek help privately. The medication I am currently taking is expensive, but as it turns out, effective. After the last imaging tests, it turned out that there is no progression - it is stable.

I have always been active. I worked as long as my health allowed me to. I tried to be kind and cordial to my co-workers and family. I have often provided selfless help. Despite the daily struggle with illness, I still have a huge will to live. I want to regain full strength so that I can continue to play the role of a father and grandfather. Every day I wait and look out the window for my beloved grandchildren to come. Help me to continue to be with my family and enjoy life.
