Dream:
My name is Agata. In 2016, at the age of 38, I got breast cancerI have been getting regular checkups for 10 years because my mother also died of breast cancer. Unfortunately, despite prevention, I failed to detect the disease in time. At the end of radical treatment, metastasis to the bones occurred.
Since then, my treatment has been palliative in nature – it prolongs my life by months, even years. During this time, I have received hundreds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. Until 2022, I was treated in Wrocław, where I live, but I was told that there were no more treatment options for me in my city. I found salvation in Warsaw, where I travel every three weeks for visits, tests, and chemotherapy.
As if that wasn't enough, comorbidities have appeared: diabetes, hyperthyroidism and other ailments that are constantly multiplying. After so many years of struggle, our household budget has suffered greatly. I am not entitled to a pension, and my husband is the only breadwinner in the family. We have a 15-year-old son, and the financial situation is becoming increasingly difficult for us.
Despite everything, I do not lose hope. It is my family – my husband, who is always with me, my granddaughter, son and my closest ones – who give me the strength to fight. My husband, although he has to take time off work to travel with me to treatment, never leaves me.
I am brave and determined in this unequal fight with the disease – I will not give up until the end. Thanks to the drugs, the disease is currently stable, and I hope that there are still many moments ahead of me that I can spend with my loved ones.
