Dream:
Working as a paramedic, I was an eyewitness to human pain and suffering. At that time, I was still completely devoted to work, not realizing that the danger might also be hanging over me.
April 2021 changed everything – non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. At that moment, all I was sure of was that I had to act – as quickly and as effectively as possible. The first steps in my fight against the disease were chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Unfortunately, a PET scan performed in July 2021 showed the ineffectiveness of the treatment and progression in the liver.
Only the second line of treatment restored my hope, thanks to which I managed to temporarily stop the disease. Unfortunately, in this fight, every victory has its price - this is how I paid for the cancer regression with hearing loss. I was ready for anything, the disease robs me of strength and energy, but also increases the will to live, especially when you have people around you who are worth fighting for.
With this attitude, I decided to undergo a cell transplant, which was to take place in February 2022. Initially, the procedure was delayed by Covid, but the subsequent CT scan and its disastrous results completely deprived me of the possibility of undergoing the transplant.
I don't have much room to maneuver, the disease and constant progression deprive me of many alternatives. I cannot count on the effectiveness of chemotherapy, I cannot count on the disease to simply stop. Currently, my best chance is a non-reimbursed drug at a price that is almost impossible to obtain - over PLN 1,000,0000. This medicine is a gateway to health, it does not postpone the disease, but fights it. The rehabilitation allowance does not provide any real chance of accumulating such an amount, so at the moment I can only rely on bridging treatment. Such a breakneck challenge requires external support, without your help, my real chance for health will remain only in the zone of dreams.
Returning to normality is currently my biggest dream. Cancer turned my life upside down, took away my time and strength... Since the disease, I have perceived the world differently than before. Every, smallest detail seems to have a hundred times more value, I would like to continue living with this attitude, celebrate every day, pay attention to things that have previously seemed unimportant and elusive. I would like not to worry about the future of my family, my children: a 10-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son, need a father. I know cancer can take everything away overnight and I can't let that happen. I have strength within me that I want to share at work (especially in such a difficult time) and love that I want to surround my loved ones. I won't let myself be written off, I will do everything to get my old life back.
