Ludmila Gumula

I have such a distant but at the same time very vivid dream. It's my 80th birthday. I'm organizing a party in the mountains on a low hill called Trzy Kopce in the Beskids. I'm going there alone with my husband. My children, their children, my younger sister, my wonderful friends are waiting for me at the top. We dance, enjoy each other, celebrate :-) That's how I see it!

Dear,

I am writing to you after a long time with news that I really did not want to share.

The disease has returned.

After more than a year of relative peace and stability, the latest tests confirmed a recurrence. This is an extremely rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer, one I've been trying desperately to manage for four years now.

When, thanks to your help, I was able to travel abroad for treatment a year ago, something many thought impossible happened. Doctors managed to halt the progression of the disease, save my leg, and give me the time I desperately needed.

This year has been a priceless gift.

I was able to spend my vacation with my children. Accompany my daughter on her first day of school. Celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries, Christmas Eves, and ordinary family moments that, for someone with this diagnosis, are no longer taken for granted. Thanks to you, I was able to simply be a mother, wife, and friend.

For this I thank you with all my heart.

Unfortunately, I'm facing an exceptionally difficult opponent. Despite previous treatment successes, the disease has resurfaced.

However, I have no intention of giving up. Especially since recent genetic research has led to new ideas for targeted treatment.

The results of these studies allowed doctors to better understand the mechanisms responsible for cancer development. Based on this, a new, multifaceted treatment plan was developed.

It includes:

- specialized chemotherapy tailored to the detected genetic mutation,
- a biological drug that inhibits genetic mutation,
- immunotherapy to stimulate my immune system to fight cancer,
- another operation and further treatment conducted by foreign specialists,
- and also rehabilitation, due to the location of the tumor and orthopedic problems.

Unfortunately, the treatment is very expensive and not reimbursed, much of it abroad. After four years of fighting, six surgeries, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and all the expenses associated with the disease, my family's financial resources were exhausted.

That is why I am turning to you for help once again.

I have someone to fight for. I have two wonderful children who remind me every day how much there is still to experience. I have a loving husband, family, friends, and a great Spirit!

Many people ask me if I am angry with fate.

I'm not.

Anger takes energy, and I need it to heal.

That's why I focus on what I can do today. Search for solutions. Heal myself. Cultivate optimism and faith. And ask for help when I can no longer bear the burden of this challenge on my own.

If you can, please support the fundraiser and share it.

Every donation, every share, and every kind word truly matters.

Thank you for being with me.

With gratitude, hope and strength of spirit,

Milka

Last year was a real test of my Spiritual strength and my faith that a positive solution is possible. a devastating diagnosis, no further treatment options in Poland and a glimmer of hope - that is, possibility of treatment abroad.
Thanks to a wonderful fundraiser supported by people with the intention of helping at heart, I was given a new opportunity! I managed to raise funds for effective chemotherapy using a protocol unavailable in Poland. I also underwent a complex surgery that saved my leg from amputation.

This is a success not only for me, my children, and my family, but also for everyone who decided to help! This story shows that helping others is worth it!

What is happening now?

My doctors prescribed me advanced genetic testing, to get more information about the cancer that has developed in me, as well as about further treatment options. I received the results this week, which bring both good and bad news. The good news is that we now know which genetic mutations contributed to the disease. The bad news is the recommendations resulting from the results. It turns out I will need regular expensive treatment, not reimbursed in Poland, to stay alive. Not a one-time thing, but a regular and cyclical one.
I'm young, hungry for life, have two children (ages 7 and 10), a wonderful husband, and I can't give up. That's why I'm continuing my fundraising campaign and asking you to:

-transmission 1.5% from tax settlement

Dear!

More great news! The latest imaging tests say things are looking up! :-) But first things first.

Final treatment details

In Israel, I underwent advanced treatment, followed by two very radical leg surgeries. It was incredibly difficult, but ultimately, everything yielded a positive result. It worked!!! And I wasn't the only one who thought it was a miracle. My Israeli doctors were in tears when the results came back, while the Polish doctors were in disbelief. Everyone involved knew I had managed to escape the worst-case scenario at the last minute. Fortunately, I managed to change the course of events and the verdict the Polish doctors had handed down.

This is thanks to so many people that thinking about it gives me chills. Your help—and I emphasize YOUR HELP—physically saved my life, halted the disease, and saved me from having my leg amputated!

Thank you!

Fundraisers like this are an extraordinary experience. They will forever ignite within me a sense of gratitude and unity. The spring fundraiser surpassed my wildest imagination of what was possible. Thousands of people got involved, and the fundraiser transformed into a network woven from good intentions, kindness, prayers, and various acts of human help. After a while, the fundraiser began to function like an independent, living organism, moving without my control, beyond my imagination. This process autonomously reached the right people, where they needed to be, at the right time. If there's any definition of a miracle, this is one such example. I know many of you personally got involved in this fundraiser, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! It's thanks to you that I'm healed, alive, and have a leg! It's thanks to you that my family, including my two beautiful children, can continue to enjoy my presence. Can I repay each of you? Probably not... but I intend to spread this goodness into the world! And I say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

What's next?

Cancer requires ongoing treatment, constant monitoring, and considerable proactivity to keep the disease in check and, to the extent that God, biology, genetics, and funding allow, prevent its recurrence. All of this costs a lot, so my fundraising campaign continues. Until a universal cancer vaccine is discovered, I intend to use all known complementary treatment and support methods. I am asking for both one-time donations and 1.5% for my fundraising campaign. What will the funds be used for?

The collected funds will be transferred to:

  • regular consultations with attending physicians in Israel and in the country
  • treatment of complications after oncological therapy
  • regular examinations to determine health status
  • Integrative medicine protocols that help maintain low levels of circulating cancer cells in the blood and circulating cancer stem cells in the blood
  • supplements and treatments for regeneration
  • regular motor and neurological rehabilitation (due to muscle and sciatic nerve loss)
  • surgery - reconstruction of missing structures in the leg - muscle and nerve transplant
  • rehabilitation equipment and orthosis

Thank you for all your help. Every gesture, even the smallest, counts!

Dear! There is good news, and it's double! After extensive and thorough diagnostics, doctors from Israel confirmed that they had a concept not only for a surgery to save the leg (i.e. amputation is not necessary), but also for completing the chemotherapy treatment, which was not possible in Poland due to life-threatening complications. This news gave me wings and filled the tank of energy needed for further action and, above all, recovery. Deep in my heart I know everything will turn out fine.

Fortunately, the deposit for the hospital, for which we managed to collect funds together, covered not only the diagnostics, consultations and the entire qualification process for the surgery but also the planned chemotherapy. What I still need to raise is the funds for the surgery itself, which the deposit cannot cover. At this stage of treatment we are focusing on collecting approximately PLN 180,000. The surgery will be very extensive and complicated, involving many specialists. It will also require reconstructive procedures and probably a skin graft. Chemotherapy gives us a few more weeks to collect funds for the surgery. Dear ones, please help me in this biggest project of my life, called in essence "LIFE". Every, even the smallest contribution counts. A sea of gratitude flows to you through all channels!

I would also like to explain exactly what the remaining funds will be spent on. In the end we collect 1.5 million, and the cost of treatment in Israel is about 450 thousand zloty. Both in the near and distant future we will need:

  • After surgery, at least for the first few months, follow-up consultations with the operating physician will be necessary.
  • Such a serious (and already fourth) operation, which also necessarily widens the neurological deficits in the leg, requires very regular rehabilitation. Rehabilitation must be performed in a center that has experience in the rehabilitation of patients with movement deficits on a neurological basis. Fortunately, I live in Krakow and have access to excellent rehabilitators with such competences. My rehabilitation will be divided into several stages and will last about 2 years. Its goal will be to regain the greatest possible mobility and to fight for the recovery, where possible, of sensation and function of the leg in a neurological context. This process requires a lot of patience, hence the duration of rehabilitation. Nerves regenerate for a very long time, such is their biology.
  • If everything goes well (and it will definitely), a few years after my upcoming surgery, there will be a chance for reconstructive surgery, which will allow me to transplant my own nerve from my calf to the current nerve loss in my leg. Thanks to such a surgery, I will be able to fight again to regain the functions of my leg that I lost neurologically. This would be a huge change in the quality of my life.
  • The most advanced genetic tests available in the world, which will answer the question of whether the tumor and disease have a genetic basis. If so, and there are strong indications for this, hence the recommendation to carry them out, I should then take a drug that turns off the expression of the damaged gene. This drug should be taken for as long as possible. I know that I will not be entitled to the National Health Fund, and the monthly cost of this drug is several dozen thousand zlotys.
  • Few people know how expensive specialist orthoses are, which increase mobility and freedom of movement. My leg is partially neurologically damaged and requires support so that I can walk. Such equipment, which really works, is manufactured in the USA, costs many thousands of zlotys and unfortunately wears out quickly. The National Health Fund pays a few hundred zlotys every 3 years, so it is symbolic support.
  •  Immediately after returning to Poland, I will undergo a full cycle of complementary oncological therapy at an integrative medicine clinic, which will allow for: the removal of cancer stem cells circulating in the blood, faster recovery of immunity and energy, and protection against relapse and metastasis. Such cycles of therapy should usually be repeated 2-3 times a year. Their effectiveness is verifiable and confirmed by specialist (and therefore expensive) studies in Germany.
  • Psycho-oncological and dietary support, because a holistic approach brings the greatest results.
  • Supplements, specialized preparations.

Dear ones, I am ready to do everything on my part to improve my health. I am absolutely unwavering in this and totally optimistic. The only thing I need for even greater success is financial resources, which I can only collect thanks to your help. Every little gesture matters. Thank you!

I have always believed that life is a journey – sometimes gentle, sometimes full of steep climbs, but always worth the effort. My goal is health, and I carry a dream in my heart: to climb a mountain one day, on my own, surrounded by my loved ones, with a smile and without pain.

Today, this journey is becoming even more difficult. The latest tests have shown that the tumor has grown. In Poland, doctors see only one solution – amputation. Fear, helplessness, unanswered questions… But I know one thing: I can't stop. Nnow, when specialists in Israel are giving me a different path – a chance to save my leg and have effective treatment.

To move forward, I need your support. Thanks to a joint effort, it was possible to collect the necessary funds for a deposit for a hospital in Israel.
This deposit allows you to begin diagnostic testing and consultations with specialists.

However, there is a lack of funds for the operation itself. Again We ONLY have a few days to collect them. All funds raised will allow for:
  • Specialist surgery in a renowned clinic
  • Treatment abroad
  • Extended diagnostics and genetic testing
  • Implementation of specialist drugs
Every donation, every share is another step towards health for me. I believe that with you I can reach the top. Thank you for walking this path with me!

Dream:

The diagnosis was like a bolt from the blue. An extremely rare type of cancer – MPNST – located on a nerve in the leg. It is a disease that occurs once in a million cases. There are few doctors in the world who treat it, and there is very little research on the subject.

However, I decided to treat this experience as a journey that would definitely change and transform me. I took the bull by the horns and did (and still do) everything that was within my reach.

The result? I am stronger than ever. Peace and calm have settled in my head, and I am even more in love with life and even happier. I only miss one thing now - the end of treatment and health.

At that time, I found two doctors in Poland who, with great reservation, agreed to treat me. I underwent three surgeries, and yet I am still at square one. The treatment in Poland proved ineffective and consumed all our savings. Fortunately, there is a light at the end of the tunnel – the possibility of treatment abroad. This is my chance to live without pain and return to normal functioning.

I am waiting for a decision on what form of therapy will be most effective for me – whether specialist surgery, drug treatment, or even leg amputation (or a combination of these methods) will be necessary. Regardless of the choice, funds are needed for procedures abroad, recovery, treatment and rehabilitation.

My dreams

I have three big dreams:

  1. I want to enjoy carefree moments with my loved ones again – with my husband, my 6-year-old daughter and my 10-year-old son. I would happily swap medical tourism for mountain walks, beach runs and wandering through the forest.

  2. I want to get back to the job I love with all my heart. The disease and its complications prevented me from continuing my professional activity, in which I could do what I feel called to do – help others. I miss it and dream of returning to professional activity as soon as possible.

  3. I have one distant but very vivid dream. I see my 80th birthday. I am organizing it in the mountains, on the not-so-high peak of Trzy Kopce in the Beskids. I go there alone with my husband. At the top, my children, their children and loving partners, my younger sister and beloved friends are waiting for me. We dance, enjoy each other, celebrate life. That's how I see it!

Please help me make these dreams come true. ❤️
