life saving device rental - Optune TTFields

Updates:

Updated on 28.11.2024

Adam's story was told in Elżbieta Jaworowicz's program "Sprawa dla Reportera" (the program about Adam's fight can be watched here).

Adam has been battling glioblastoma multiforme (WHO G4) for over a year and uses the Optune TTFields device. It costs 120 thousand PLN to rent it each month! Thanks to the support of many people, over a million PLN has already been allocated for his treatment, but the money is constantly running out.

The operation of the Optune TTFields device was discussed in the TVP studio by, among others, prof. dr hab. lek. Marek Harat, dr hab. n. med. Maciej Harat and member of the board of the Polish Society of Neuromodulation, dr n. med. Łukasz Grabarczyk.

The use of Optune TTFields by patients like Adam is recommended by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) - an organization that brings together leading cancer treatment centers in the United States. However, the therapy is so new that it is not yet reimbursed in Poland.

Glioblastoma multiforme is a disease with a very poor prognosis that meets the criteria for a rare disease.

We know that there is no miracle cure for glioma, but we want to maximize Adam's chances. We want Adam to live. We want him to continue helping others - Adam's family and friends appealed to the viewers of Elżbieta Jaworowicz's program.

The program also mentioned that Adam Burchat was one of the people who fought for the rehabilitation of Stanisław Jaster, hero of the skirmish near Celestynów, escapee from Auschwitz and courier of Witold Pilecki, who - wrongly accused of treason - was probably murdered by his colleagues from the Home Army.

The symbolic rehabilitation of Stanisław Jaster, thanks in part to Adam, was only carried out more than 70 years after his tragic death.

In Elżbieta Jaworowicz's program, help for Adam Burchat was requested by, among others, Bożena Sławińska, granddaughter of Jaster's fiancée, as well as Małgorzata Walczak and Marek Pawłowski, creators of the documentary "Jaster. The Secret of Hela".

You can support Adam by donating any amount through the fundraiser run by the Rakiety Oncological Foundation.

The episode "A Case for a Reporter" telling the story of Adam was broadcast on TVP1 on November 28, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. 22:00. See the program

Dream:

We dream that it will stay as it is!

Despite severe brain surgery and already undergoing chemotherapy and brain radiotherapy, Dad returned home and to work and - just like before - we can always count on him in all our matters! But the disease did not go away... To save Dad's life, along with further chemotherapy, we need additional, modern treatment, which, although already reimbursed in the West, is currently only available for a fee in Poland.

Our story:

We are a very loving family of four. Our parents always encouraged us to help others, eat healthily and do sports. They always did the same and had regular preventive examinations. Unfortunately, despite this, during our last vacation, in July 2023, my dad woke up in the morning partially paralyzed. Fortunately, the symptoms disappeared, but it turned out that the cause was an epileptic attack caused by a brain tumor.

Most of the tumor has already been removed, but the prognosis for this type of glioma is not good. To save my dad's life, along with further chemotherapy, we need modern Optune therapy (TTFields), which uses electromagnetic fields to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. The use of TTFields in patients like my dad is already standard, including: in the United States, France or Austria, however in Poland it is not yet reimbursed, and renting the device costs as much as PLN 1.4 million per year.

The parents have already received enough support to finance the first two months of therapy, but the father should continue it for a minimum of 2 years. For the treatment to be effective, the device must be worn on the head almost all the time.

Adam Burchat's story was told on November 28, 2024 in Elżbieta Jaworowicz's program "Sprawa dla reportera". The entire program can be watched here.

We are asking you to help us save Dad.

Any support shown can be decisive in the fight for the future of our family!

Thank you,

Julia (17 years old), Jakub (13 years old), Dorota (46 years old) and Adam (47 years old)
