My name is Arek Skolimowski, I am 41 years old. Until my diagnosis, I had a busy professional life, working as a programmer in an international corporation. I create solutions for the automation of airline reservation processes that allow many of us, among others, to: explore the world, work or study abroad. In addition, I find room in my life for my passions - ecological plant cultivation, running, computer games and music. I am also a husband and father of two wonderful sons - Piotr, 11, and Mateusz, 3.  

In March 2024, my life suddenly changed course. Persistent headaches turned out to be a symptom grade IV glioma – a fatal, cruel cancer disease that gives me only 15 months to live without specialist treatment. This diagnosis came unexpectedly, affecting me at the height of my life, at a time when I had numerous professional and family plans. For me, my family and friends it was a shock and pain that is difficult to describe in words.

My fight began with a craniotomy operation at the Neurosurgery Department of the Bielański Hospital in Warsaw, where a 44x38mm tumor was removed completely and without complications. 

Now I have further stages of treatment ahead of me - chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, medical consultations and genetic tests in Poland and abroad, as well as the need to take specialized dietary supplements. However, my chance for a longer life also depends on therapy using the Optune device, which is unavailable to me due to the high rental costs of 30 thousand euros per month. 

My biggest dream is the chance to raise my children and accompany them in their joys and sorrows. I would also like to be able to disseminate knowledge about the difficulties in access to modern therapeutic therapies for people fighting cancer.
