My name is Alicja and I am 73 years old. So far I have led a quiet life. The disease appeared in my life unexpectedly. I was diagnosed in November 2022 stage III ovarian cancer. This was a huge surprise for me because I had not experienced any pain before. The oncologist sent me for immediate surgery.

On December 20, 2022, I underwent surgery to remove the uterus with its appendages, omentum and peritoneal drainage. The water collecting in my stomach made it very difficult for me to sleep normally. I also couldn't eat, which caused me to lose weight drastically and my body was devastated. On January 30, 2023, I started chemotherapy at the oncology ward in Wrocław. Due to weakness and complications after cancer treatment, I also have to support my body with strengthening treatments that are not reimbursed by the National Health Fund.

The medical costs so far have consumed my savings. I know that I have more expenses ahead of me to be able to function as normally as possible. Traveling to specialists, a healthy diet, and supplements costs more than I can afford.

I would not like to give up treatment because I still hope that I will be able to enjoy life surrounded by my children and husband. I dream of having the strength to work in the garden, knit or read books again.
