We would be grateful if you support our Emergency Fund

We help people with cancer and their loved ones completely free of charge. We do not charge fees or commissions for our collections, we finance consultations with specialists - and all this from our Emergency Fund. It is a kind of "buffer" for the beneficiaries of our Foundation. They can also use it when there is no time to wait, when the money is needed "here and now" - e.g. for the first dose of a non-reimbursed drug. Every contribution, even a small one, matters.

Girls, check your breasts regularly. Start with self-examination, and once a year, please make an appointment for a breast ultrasound, especially if you do not do it regularly. I didn't. October and the pink ribbon didn't seem to concern me. After all, I live a healthy and ecological life, I practice sports, and no one in my family has suffered from breast cancer. I checked myself a little too late. Too late for quick and simple treatment. Now I have no hair, no strength and no appetite. I have metastases in my spine, medical rigor, new cancer knowledge and a difficult path to health ahead of me.
Do it for yourself and your loved ones. Check your dogs. Choose life. Encourage other girls and go for a breast ultrasound together. It is clear that it will not protect you from the disease, but it will allow you to detect it early enough to make it easier and more effective for medicine to deal with it. Don't let cancer surprise you.

On March 8 this year, Women's Day, two surprises were waiting for me. The first one was a beautiful bouquet of roses from my husband, and the second one was cancer... In the evening, after a bath, standing in front of the mirror, I decided that it was time for another self-examination. I felt a lump in my left breast at one o'clock. I thought what? It can't be me! And yet. The next day, first thing in the morning, I had an ultrasound, a quick visit to the oncologist, then waiting for the biopsy results and the most important news in my life - early stage cancer that can be completely cured. Today I know that if I had not checked myself as a preventive measure, my prognosis could have been much worse. My dear, get tested!

I know from experience how important it is to detect the disease in its early stage. I performed preventive examinations such as complete blood count, cytology, breast ultrasound and gynecological examination at least once a year. Thanks to this, my developing breast cancer was detected early and I was able to quickly start appropriate treatment. I had an extremely aggressive opponent (TNBC, Ki-67 parameter equal to 100%), so if it weren't for regular tests, my treatment could have been completely different. Many diseases can be cured if diagnosed early and treated quickly. It's never too early to start getting tested.

I was 35 years old when, during a check-up breast ultrasound, it turned out that I had a suspicious lesion, which turned out to be HER2-positive hormonal breast cancer. I was very lucky, the lesion was still not very advanced, my lymph nodes were clear. If I had delayed the tests, I would most likely have had metastases. I went through the full treatment package - chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and adjuvant treatment. Today, 2 years after the diagnosis, I am slowly returning to "normality" - I enjoy my health and life, and I am planning the future. Girls, get checked and if anything worries you, listen to your intuition, mine saved me.

Preventive tests saved my life! I had to face an extremely nasty opponent, a highly aggressive triple negative. The diagnosis knocked me off my feet, but I immediately started aggressive treatment. Today I am alive and I know that quick detection and action were crucial in all this. I'm alive because I get checked regularly!

My story is preceded by a routine ultrasound examination in August 2022 that changed my life. The ultrasound showed a change that had not been there a year earlier. I was told I needed to see a breast surgeon. Concern set in, but I tried to stay calm until I had all the facts. So I went to a breast surgeon. The tumor was clearly visible in the photo. A lump formed in my throat, but I listened and asked questions. I had to be well informed about every possibility related to this diagnosis. The next step was a biopsy which revealed that I had cancer - the words no one wants to hear - I have breast cancer. However, the good news was that the tumor was small and confined to the milk duct. I am grateful that the surgical options were clearly explained to me with patience and care, and I chose to undergo tumor resection (BCT) and sentinel node removal, followed by radiotherapy. The surgery went surprisingly quickly and I returned home the same day. Two weeks later, I met with my oncologist and was given a radiation treatment schedule that included five days a week for six weeks. This was the scariest part for me and the tears started flowing as I sat in the parking lot of the radiology center. It really happened and I felt very overwhelmed by it all. Early in my diagnosis, I started journaling as a healthy outlet for my feelings and emotions. My motto will always be the same. Early detection saves lives. My advice to others is: get checked regularly, accept help when it's offered, seek help when you need it. Advice from a breast cancer patient to a breast cancer survivor - thanks to regular examinations.
