It started in May 2014 with a pathological fracture of the collarbone while unscrewing a screw. Meta-type changes in bones were suspected. Further diagnostics led us to a terrifying diagnosis: inoperable prostate cancer with metastases to pelvic lymph nodes and bones.

Participation in a clinical trial program in which he received acetanabiraterone (ABI) gave hope for recovery, as the drug caused a systematic decrease in PSA to an acceptable level. An optimistic approach to the disease and the treatment process, as well as well-being during the treatment, allowed me to almost "forget" about the disease and lead a normal life. We were glad that the worst was over, although we knew that full recovery was not possible.

In 2017, progression occurred, so further hormonal therapies, chemotherapy and experimental therapies were implemented. PSA dropped and soon rose again. Still with a positive attitude, my husband tolerated all medical procedures well until 2021... In January 2021, experimental therapy with a preparation was used - for the first time used on a human. Due to lack of tolerance towards the toxicity of the preparation, he had to leave the program after 3 months (he still suffers from the effects of complications). In November of the same year, clinical, radiographic and biochemical progression occurred, and PSA increased above 500 ng/ml. Blood transfusion was necessary. The attitude towards fighting the disease has also worsened.

The only drug proposed for further therapy is Xtandi. It is a drug with proven effectiveness in the fight against prostate cancer, with an effect similar to ABI, which allowed us to enjoy positive effects in the first stages of the disease. When trying the Xtandi treatment, we have to pay the full amount, i.e. approximately PLN 15,000 per month.

Now, after 3 months, we have observed a significant decrease in PSA, combined with improvement in blood parameters and the overall condition of the body. The drug brings the effects we dreamed of, but its price significantly burdens our budget, especially since it must be used continuously - at this point we are unable to purchase further doses.

Bogdan is 68 years old. He was always active, he was one of the founders of the Youth Housing Cooperative, he worked for many years in a hospital as a studio manager, and then at the Customs Office in various positions. He was kind, cordial and empathetic towards his co-workers, and he often provided selfless help to others. After retiring, he spent time on his allotment. He loved tinkering, renovating the house and admiring nature. Here he was revived and gained strength to fight the disease. Despite struggling with minor and major ailments every day, he still has a great will to live. He wants to get back to full strength. He is caring towards children, loves his grandchildren and looks forward to meeting them. He would like to instill his passions in them, make a swing together, and show his youngest granddaughter, who does not live in Poland, its beauty and traditions.
