Since March this year, there has been progression and metastases to the lungs. Bernadetta is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy. The liver is in poor condition, so the red chemotherapy is administered in a smaller dose, but every week. Particularly burdensome are problems with a very bloated belly, which makes normal functioning difficult. After the first white chemotherapy (August 12, 2022) in Warsaw, neutrophils dropped to 0.07 and leukocytes below 0.9. Bernadetta was taken to the hospital in Kielce, where she remains to this day. Her everyday life was marked by a lot of injections, growth factors, antibiotics and drips. The kidneys also turned out to be a major threat as they did not function without diuretics.

For the rest, we have good news! The latest CT scan results showed that the tumors had shrunk a bit. This is just the beginning, but we are going in the right direction :)

Lesions in the liver and mediastinum continue to grow. The genetic tests performed allowed Bernadetta to be qualified for reimbursed treatment with Alpelisyb combined with hormone therapy. Unfortunately, the side effects are very troublesome. Nevertheless, we hope that subsequent research will eventually show a reduction or at least a halt in the development of changes.
Update from September 30, 2020
Unfortunately, recent test results confirmed the progression of the disease. Bernadetta is currently undergoing treatment with another hormone - letrozole. From November, she will probably take part in the clinical trial recommended for her.
Update of 23/01/2020
Recently, due to decreased results, it was necessary to delay the next dose. Sometimes after such long-term treatment, the body needs more time to regenerate. So Bernadetta gathers strength for another dose of the drug.
Update of 11/12/2019
Bernadetta qualified for the drug program, thanks to which she is now reimbursed for Ibrance treatment. Currently, the basic costs incurred are dietary supplements.

Bernadetta continues to treat Ibrance. Blood test results are stable. In September she will have a CT scan that will show the results of the treatment.
DREAM:
my name is Bernadetta Borek (Brzezińska). I have a husband, Zbyszek, and a son, Wojtuś.
In October 2016 I was diagnosed hormone-dependent left breast cancer, malignancy type G-1. On December 20, 2016, I underwent radical removal of the left breast with simultaneous reconstruction at ŚCO in Kielce. No metastases were found in the surrounding tissues and in the removed nodes. The prognosis was very favorable. I started further treatment in the form of hormone therapy, because the chemicals would have limited effectiveness. I went back to work. My husband and I started building our dream house, doing much of the work ourselves. I was constantly monitored by doctors. I felt great, I believed I was healthy.
Unfortunately, on February 5, 2019, I found out that the disease returned. Abdominal ultrasound, MRI and liver biopsy confirmed the diagnosis breast cancer metastases to the liver. The PET scan confirmed that the changes in the liver and chest lymph nodes are an active proliferative process - meta. Everyone is surprised, doctors don't know how it's possible. The prognosis was good, G-1 cancer without metastases. Approx. 90% patients with my type of cancer never relapse after undergoing treatment.
Even more so I know that I cannot give up now. I keep telling myself that I will do everything to enjoy everything around me as long as possible. I would like to watch my son go to school, us decorate his room, and I wait with dinner for him and my husband in our own home. Such simple dreams. There are so many people who support me – family and friends. With a kind word, a prayer. Often these are people I don't know much. Even for me, an emotionally strong person, this is very moving. I believe that faith works miracles.
At consultations in Warsaw I just heard about palbociclib - a new, non-reimbursed drug, which for women like me is a chance for long-term disease remission. In my case, chemotherapy, as before, would have limited effectiveness, and at the same time it would devastate my body and block the path to treatment with new drugs such as palbociclib. If the body responds well to the treatment, there is a good chance of remission, if not, chemotherapy can be started only then.
Therefore, I would like to start treatment with Ibrance (palbociclib), which monthly treatment is approximately PLN 10,000.
We direct all our financial resources to fight the disease and we want to purchase the drug Ibrance. I don't know how long it will last us. Especially since life has to go on, so various other expenses are inevitable.
