We learned about the disease on June 26, 2024, when Kasia was admitted to the hospital in Szczecinek. The reason for the visit was initially a simple cough, which, however, made us worried. In the hospital, it turned out that Kasia had a 15 cm diameter lesion near her lung. We were referred to the St. Nicholas Clinic in Szczecin, first to the hematology department, and then to the oncology department. The next step was hospitalization in the surgery department, where on July 9, 2024, Kasia underwent a five-hour surgery during which the tumor was removed.<\/p>\n
During the surgery and histopathological examination on July 10, 2024, it was confirmed that we are dealing with soft tissue sarcoma<\/strong>. Additionally, we were referred to another hospital in Szczecin-Zdunowo, where they took care of repair of the lung that was<\/strong> crushed by a tumor<\/strong> and it couldn't expand. Kasia had two suction tubes connected to her lung.<\/p>\n We are currently back in the oncology department at St. Nicholas Clinic. Kasia still has one drain in her lung. Starting tomorrow, August 9, 2024, we will start chemotherapy, which is planned for about three months. Then Kasia will have to undergo another surgery, because the tomography showed that the tumor was not completely removed and there were cancerous changes. During this surgery, the remaining tumor will be resectioned and a procedure on the lung will be performed to close the free space from which air escapes and fluid leaks.<\/p>\n Kasia will have a long and demanding rehabilitation ahead of her, the costs of which far exceed our financial capabilities.
